On Memorial Day Weekend the Adirondacks will play host to POLKAFESTUSA, the 15th annual Adirondack celebration of polka dance and music (http://www.PolkafestUSA.com)
The TWO DAY event features four nationally known Polka bands. Saturday's festivities include music provided by THE BOYS, from Maryland, and THE EDDIE FORMAN ORCHESTRA, from Massachusetts. Following a Polka Worship Service at noon, music on Sunday will be provided by Frank Liszka and Dave Walter (OLD SCHOOL) from Ohio, and Hank Guzevich's POLKA FAMILY, from Pennsylvania.
THE POLKA EXPRESS! Like polka, trains and the Adirondacks? Adirondack Scenic Railroad now offers The Polka Express Limited! Saturday, May 26th ONLY!!! Departs Utica Station at 10:30 am, and returns by 7:30 pm. Tickets available with or without lunch and participation in the PolkafestUSA activities in Old Forge. POLKA MUSIC by Fritz's Polka Band on both the way to and from the Thendara Station. Shuttle provided for all riders to Old Forge from the Thendara Station. Enjoy an incredible scenic trip along rivers, streams, through gorgeous wilderness areas. Limited number of tickets available.
Old Forge is located in the western foothills of the Adirondack Park, one hour north of Utica, NY. The event is run by Adirondack Special Events, a new Special Events Promotional Company (http://www.AdirondackSpecialEvents.com). Well-known polka promoter Dave Sychtysz serves as director of the event. Camper and RV parking is available by contacting Jim Connerty at (315)369-5456. Hookups not available.
Lodging should be booked well in advance of the event. Lodging locations are listed on the website http://www.polkafestusa.com. Tickets are $17 per day/$30 for the two day event, and are available online.
